Hi, I’m Jo Ryding – your head coach at JR Ski Racing.

To say I come from a family of Winter Sports enthusiasts is an understatement. My Dad, Carl Ryding, is recognised as being one of the most experienced coaches in the UK, and my brother, Dave Ryding, is a World Cup slalom skier and the British No. 1.

I started ski racing in the UK on artificial surfaces and then moved on to Alpine as a Junior member of the English National Team. I was a Youth Olympian in Switzerland 2005 and was School Girls Overall Alpine Champion in 2006.

I joined the GB Development Team but my racing career was cut short by a serious accident and on medical advice I had to quit racing. It was a tough time, but when you’re so passionate about a sport, nothing can stop you! I had a long fight back to fitness, and turned my attention to qualifying as a coach.

In addition to qualifying as a top Alpine Race Coach (UKCP level 3 ) I’m also a Personal Fitness Trainer (Register of Exercise Professionals) and BASI Instructor. My coaching experience over the years has been gained with the England Junior Team, as coach for the Youth Olympics – Poland, and as FIS Coach at Ambition Academy. I’m currently the Head Coach for the RAF Men’s and Women’s teams who (I’m proud to say), under my coaching, are the Inter Services Champions 2015.

At national level I’ve been involved in the administrative side of the sport as National Team Selector for both Snowsport England and British Ski and Snowboard. I’m also England Team Coach Manager responsible for selection and programme development.

My motivation for the JR Ski Racing training organization is based on my own experiences in the sport. As an athlete, I understand the demands of the sport and know first hand, the commitments and sacrifices made by families to support young up and coming athletes. I expect hard work and total commitment from my racers, and look forward to training the future No. 1 ski racer!

Kate currently holds her Level 2 BASI instructor qualification and is working towards finishing her Level 3 in November. She also holds her Level 2 UKCP Coaching Licence.

We look forward to welcoming Kate to the Team this season!!!
